More than half of Americans are insecure about their smile. Are you one of them?

Many people have gaps in their teeth. But it is one of the main reasons why people are self-conscious.

Many different things can cause tooth gaps. Some possible reasons include crooked teeth, teeth shifting, breaking a tooth, missing teeth, and gum disease.

But many treatments can fix a tooth gap. Keep reading about three of the best treatment options that we offer.

1. Teeth Bonding

Teeth bonding uses a material called resin to fill small gaps in your teeth. It is usually recommended for people with a small to medium gap when their other teeth are generally straight.

It is a relatively quick, simple, and cost-effective way to fill a tooth gap. There is little discomfort, and you can usually complete the process with one visit to the dentist.

First, your dentist will choose a shade of resin. They will make sure that it perfectly matches the color of your teeth.

Your dentist will then prepare your existing tooth enamel on the tooth that the resin is being bonded on to. This doesn’t involve any enamel removal, so it is entirely reversible. It is a fast and painless process.

A conditioning liquid is then applied to the tooth that is being bonded. This will help make sure that the resin adheres to your tooth.

Then, the resin is applied to your tooth. It starts in liquid form, and your dentist will sculpt and shape it to perfectly fill in your tooth gap.

The resin is then cured with ultraviolet light. This strengthens and hardens the resin, securing and bonding it to your tooth.

Finally, your dentist will clean and polish the resin. This is the end of the treatment, and your tooth gap will be filled and look completely natural.

Teeth bonding can be perfect to fill small gaps in your teeth. However, if your tooth gap is larger or more apparent, then your dentist may recommend a different treatment. This is because other options are more durable and stain-resistant.

2. Apply Veneers

Have you thought about veneers? They are another way to fill any gaps in your teeth and cover any other chips or imperfections.

They are like shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They are thin but very strong, stable, and stain-resistant. They are often made from ceramic or porcelain.

The color and shape of your veneer are custom-designed. This means that your veneer will look and feel natural, and match perfectly to your other teeth.

First of all, your dentist will clean your teeth. They can then accurately decide which shade to choose for your veneer. They will make sure that it matches the rest of your teeth, so it looks natural and discrete.

They will then prepare the tooth that is having the veneer attached to it. Half a millimeter of the natural tooth enamel will be removed. This makes room for the veneer to be fitted.

Your dentist will then take an impression of your tooth. This is sent to the lab and used to make your veneer. This way, it will fit you perfectly.

Once your custom-made veneer is ready, it will be placed on your tooth to check it fits. It will then be dentally cemented in place, and lightly cured. This will ensure that it is strong and secure.

Finally, the veneer is polished. You’ll then be able to see your new tooth. It will be discrete, look natural and fill any gaps.

3. Invisalign Braces

Invisalign is another alternative. This is a form of braces, used when you have more extreme teeth spacing and gap issues.

Invisalign is a great option to close large gaps in your teeth and straighten your smile. It can also help ensure that your teeth are aligned, solving any related issues with your bite or jaw.

Invisalign is a modern alternative to traditional braces. Braces use metal brackets and wires to straighten your teeth.

Invisalign is a modern, discrete, and less expensive alternative. It uses a series of invisible clear aligners that are completely removable. Each set of aligners is slightly different, and they gradually reposition your teeth.

Why Do You Need to Fix a Tooth Gap?

There are many different reasons why people want to close gaps in their teeth.

You may want to improve your smile. A tooth gap can make you feel self-conscious, and filling it can hugely boost your confidence.

A tooth gap can cause your bite to be misaligned. It can become difficult to chew and cause pain in your jaw and ear. This discomfort can also make you swallow large chunks of food, which can cause digestive issues

Widely spaced teeth can also harm your oral hygiene. Food particles can become trapped, which can lead to a build-up of bacteria and plaque. This can weaken your teeth and gums, and cause complications like tooth decay and gingivitis.
